AdvertisementThe year of the "AI app layer"Gil sees 2024 as the year that the “AI app layer” will start to crystalize, bringing the power of rapidly advancing foundation models to the masses. For someone with so much skin in the AI game, it’s notable that Gil’s portfolio does not include the big foundation models companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Cohere. Gil says he has been impressed with how quickly the legacy tech companies have moved to corner the market on cutting-edge AI research. But with the Biden administration’s more robust antitrust posture, Gil says there’s a lot of much-needed consolidation that’s not happening.

HAVANA (Reuters) - Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel sacked economy minister Alejandro Gil on Friday, state media reported, as controversy continued to grow over the delay of recently announced measures to hike the price of fuel and transportation fares in the communist-run country. The Council of State, under Diaz-Canel`s direction, has appointed Central Bank president Joaquín Alonso, 60, to replace Gil. The upheaval comes just two days after the government put off an unpopular five-fold hike in gasoline prices planned for Feb. 1, saying a cyberattack from outside Cuba had thwarted implementation. Former economy minister Gil had advocated for the unpopular plan to raise prices for many government subsidized services, and has long been criticized for his management of the country`s near-bankrupt economy. Gil's planned price hikes, initially announced in December and early January, rocked Cuba, where residents have long depended on a vast program of state subsidized food, fuel and medicine.

Labour union CGIL's regional office said Gucci's decision was not supported by objective reasons, making hard not to think the real goal was to cut staff. The transfer "does not involve any staff reductions", a spokesperson for Gucci told Reuters. Following the departure of creative director Alessandro Michele in 2022, Gucci owner Kering (PRTP.PA) changed the label's top management, as it seeks to reignite sales momentum at its largest brand.

Prosecutor Marta Durantez Gil's decision came three days after Hermoso lodged a criminal complaint . During her testimony to the prosecutor, Hermoso said she and her relatives had suffered pressure from Rubiales and his "professional entourage" to say that she "justified and approved what happened", the prosecutor's office said in a statement. As a result, the prosecutor added a complaint about possible coercion by Rubiales, the document said. The prosecutor for Spain's High Court has said Rubiales could face a sexual assault charge, which carries a prison term of between one and four years, if Hermoso, who lives and plays in Mexico, were to file a complaint. A Harlem's Fashion Row event showcased creatives and designers of color. The Harlem's Fashion Row show is one of recent steps by LVMH to become more diverse and inclusive. Black creatives and fashionistas of color are cautiously optimistic, saying LVMH could set a new standard for an industry that's long had a problem with diversity. Harlem's Fashion Row CEO Brandice Daniel said the partnership with LVMH felt intentional and serious in nature. I think it's incredible that HFR and Black designers in general are getting this kind of support," Daniel, who is Black, said, referring to Harlem's Fashion Row.
